Swaradevata Krithis

Swaradevata & Swarakshara Krithis

The compositions of Sri Swamiji are in rare and exclusive genres like Vajra bandha krithis, Thora bandha krithis,Swarakshara and Swaradevata Kritis, Manipravaala etc.

Swaradevata Kritis form a set of unique compositions where each krithi is in praise of a representative deity of a swara or note of the Carnatic music scale. These compositions are rare as they are very challenging and requires the composer to be exceptionally well versed in ragas, lyrics, and have an in-depth knowledge of the world in general.

Only Pujya Sri Swamiji has composed these rare gems in the current era..

In a Swarakshara krithi, the musical notation of the song is identical to the lyrics of the song.

From great musicians of yesteryears like MS Subbulakshmi, Semmangudi Srinivasa Aiyer, Lalgudi Jayaraman, N.Ramani, Maharajapuram Santhanam, K.V.Narayanaswamy and others to current musicians, all have offered sangeeta seva by rendering these rare krithis in the presence of Nada Brahma Sri Swamiji.

Sri Swamiji is always very pleased and happy when musicians render these swaradevata and swarakshara krithis and His Holiness wishes that all musicians should learn these and render them.

Here is a sample of a swaradevata kriti rendered by Vid. Abhishek Raghuram "Vid. Abhishek Raghuram sings Sri Swamiji's Swaradevata composition “Ri Ri Swrooditam” on Rishabh Swara in Sahana Raga on 24th October 2014 at Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Ashrama, Velachery, Chennai

With this introduction, KSHT is very excited to start classes for all Dallas musicians. Dr. Venkatraman Subramanian has graciously accepted to teach the krithis.

The kritis were first rendered in His Divine presence in 2018 in KSHT Temple and since then there has been interest expressed by many to learn them in a formal way.

Notation for each kriti will be shared in class.
