About Kuchipudi

Kuchipudi is a classical dance form rooted in the Telugu Bhagavata theater traditions and South Indian temple dances. It emphasizes storytelling through song, poetic meter, and intricate dance movements, often performed extempore. Originally, temple and court dancers used songs focusing on bhakti (devotion) and sringara (romantic love), drawing inspiration from Hindu epics.

Over time, Kuchipudi evolved into a structured art form, incorporating geometric and rhythmic patterns from other classical dances while retaining its dramatic roots. The repertoire today features a blend of bhakti poetry, sringara themes, and storytelling, often adapted from Telugu literature and Sanskrit hymns.

Kuchipudi Workshops

Sasi conducts engaging Kuchipudi workshops designed to foster appreciation for the dance form, its cultural heritage, music, and history. These sessions take participants on an immersive journey through the origins of Kuchipudi, the significance of hand gestures (mudras), and an exploration of its rich repertoire.

The workshops conclude with participants trying their hands—and feet—at the basics of Kuchipudi. These interactive experiences have been conducted in corporate and educational settings, inspiring a deeper connection to this vibrant art form.
