Significance of Sri Rudram

“namakaṁ camakaṁ caiva, pauruṣaṁ sūktaṁēva ca I nityaṁ trayaṁ prayuṁjānaḥ, brahmalōkē mahīyatē II”

(a seeker who recites daily the Namakaṁ, Camakaṁ, and Puruṣa Sūktam is honored and glorified in the region of Brahma).

These were Sage Yajñavalkya’s words in Skānda Purāṇa. Many mighty Masters of Wisdom advised that it is more beneficial to understand the meaning of śrī-rudram before its recitation.

Śiva Purāṇa asserted thus: by worshipping Lord Śiva with chanting śrī-rudram once in one’s lifetime with the understanding of its purport, those:

  • who desire worldly pleasures ultimately leading to the divine fulfillment of liberation;
  • who seek to ward off or mitigate the bad fruits of actions
  • who suffer from physical and/or mental afflictions wanting to be freed from the cry of saṁsāra -all those seekers will be expiated from all guilts and sins, granted great affluence, and will attain the supreme summit of blessedness and bliss.
